Edwin Rucker Payne, 97, of Dayton and formerly of Richmond, Va, died Friday morning July 19, 2013, in Harrison, Tenn. He was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Richmond, Va. to the late John Ernest and Lucy Rebecca Best Payne. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Erma Moran Payne.
Edwin served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army. While living in Richmond, he was employed with Blue Cross Blue Shield as a bookkeeper.
A resident of Dayton for the past six years, he attended Spivey Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a Mason and he loved fishing.
He is survived by his sister, Joyce Baker of Dayton and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with military honors will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Ewing officiating.
A graveside service will be held in Richmond, Va. Tuesday at 10 a.m.
