Jerry Wayne Grogan, 74, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at his
Born in Talladega, Ala., Jerry was the son of the late Amon and Nellie Wade
Grogan. He was a graduate of Winaboro High School and a veteran of the United States Marine
Corps. In 1961, Jerry moved to the Spring City community. He was a retired textile
engineer and worked for many years for Robinson Manufacturing. After he retired, he worked
part-time at Vaughn Funeral Home. Jerry was an avid golfer and played at many of the
surrounding golf courses. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spring City, where he
served as a deacon and a trustee. Most of all, Jerry was a great husband, father, grandfather,
great grandfather, uncle and friend.
He was preceded in death by his son, Alvin Ray
Grogan; grandson, Thomas Landon Williams; brothers, Douglas and Billy Grogan and sister, Betty
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Merry E. Grogan of Spring City; sons, Allan
Grogan of Spring City, Wayne (Lydia) Grogan of Columbia, S.C., Jamie (Barbara) Williams of Spring
City, Tommy (Amy) Williams of Spring City and Jason (Shannon) Williams of Ringgold, Ga.; daughter,
Melissa (Bill) Ansel of Athens, Tenn.; sisters, Ruth Houston and Peggy Hunter both of Talladega,
Ala.; 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday,
July 19, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Spring City with Rev. Steve Pearson, Rev. Brian
Price and Rev. Barry Purser officiating. Interment with full military honors will be Friday,
July 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends
Thursday, July 18, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Food Pantry, P. O. Box 127, Spring City,
Vaughn Funeral Home, Spring City is in charge of arrangements.
