He was born Oct. 29, 1938 in
Soddy, Tenn. to the late Clarence and Maggie (Trantham) Ricketts. He was also preceded by his
brothers, David Ricketts and Carl Ricketts and his sisters, Romaine Bowman and Glenda McGaha.
Sam was employed with Norfolk Southern Railway
as a conductor, retiring in 1998 with 30 years of service. He was a member of Coulterville

Creek, Tenn. and Donna Brown of Memphis; two sons, Tim (Terri) Ricketts of Maryville, Tenn. and Tom
(Betty Lowery) Ricketts of Asheville, N.C.; sister, Marlene (Charles) Qualls of Soddy, Tenn.; two
brothers, Larry (Daisy) Ricketts of Houston, Texas and Ernie (Carol) Ricketts of Bakewell, Tenn.;
six grandchildren, Deena (Chris) McBeath and Laura (Brendan) Gambrel both of Somerset, Ky.,
Jessica (Brian) Garner and Jennifer (Brian) Pressley both of Asheville, N.C., Samuel C. Howard and
Kelly Kirkpatrick both of Sale Creek, Tenn. and Caroline Bishop and Kenny Dyer both of Hixson,
Tenn.; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donnie (Theresa) Capps of Dayton and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for
Sam will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. Archie
Poole and Rev. Bill Ewing officiating. He will be laid to rest in Varner Cemetery in Soddy,

they will receive friends Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
