“Tommy” Kimsey, 80, of Spring City, passed from this life on Friday night,
March 1, 2013.
He was born
to George R. and Vesta Henson Kimsey October 3, 1932 in Cumberland Gap, Tenn.
Tommy is preceded
in death by his parents; one daughter, Debra Lynn Kimsey and two sisters, Cora
Lee Kimsey and Grace Evelyn “Bunny” LeGrande.
survived by his children, Sue (Dan) Birchett of Dayton, Jennifer Garrison of
Cleveland, Tenn. and T.J. Kimsey II of Dayton; the mother of his children,
Doris Kimsey of Dayton; one brother, Richard (Ellen) Kimsey of Rockwood, Tenn.;
favorite nephew, Wayne (Susana) Morgan of Dayton; seven grandchildren, Rachelle
(Chris) Adams, Larissa Roberts, Matthew Revis, Ben (Amy) Revis, Clint (Cayci)
Garrison, Brett Garrison and Lance Garrison; several great-grandchildren,
cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
He was an
avid bluegrass fan and musician and played several instruments, especially his
favorite standup bass, at various festivals and events. One favorite was the
Dunlap Coke Oven Bluegrass Festival where his name is inscribed on the
Bluegrass Musician Monument. He was the owner of the Red Barn
Jamboree in Dayton in the late 60s and was in the bluegrass band “The Back
Trackers” who performed at the 1996 Olympic Games in Ocoee, Tenn.
