Gary Clayton Whitaker (56)

Published: 02/03/2010

Gary Clayton Whitaker, 56, of Tuscumbia, Ala. and Spring City, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 after dying of natural causes.

Mr. Whitaker was born in Sheffield, Ala., on March 25, 1953, to Clayton and Marjorie Whitaker. In his childhood years, he was described as the "hub of the wheel" in his Tuscumbia neighborhood. He was a proud graduate of Deshler High School. Later, Mr. Whitaker spent a whole year living in the wilderness of western North Carolina. He married Sadie and sired children, Geoff and Kristy Whitaker. He was an athlete, coach and fan of multiple sports, avid collector, and outdoorsman. He was a second-generation 23-year TVA man. In recent years, a favorite topic was his small home Bible study at his residence in Tuscumbia. Mr. Whitaker is also survived by his sister, Myra Whitaker (Eric) Wilhite.
The family sends thanks and blessings to Mr. Whitaker's many friends in Spring City, Tenn., Murphy, Avery County, and western North Carolina, and Tuscumbia/Tri-City area, Ala.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscumbia, Ala.
