Pauline S. Smith, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Golden Years Retirement Resort in Spring City.

Mrs. Smith was born in Rhea Springs, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Dock Garfield and Maude Billingsley Smith.  Pauline was a graduate of Spring City High School and attended Milligan College and the University of Tennessee.  She played basketball in both high school and college.  Mrs. Smith taught school and was a published songwriter.  She was active in the Democratic Party.  Mrs. Smith was a member of Spring City United Methodist Church where she taught the Adult Sunday School class.  She was an accomplished artist and loved beautiful flowers.  

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Coleman "Coley" Smith; and sisters, Louise Watson and Fairy Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Dinah S. (John) Stanley of Knoxville, Tenn.; sons, Dock P. (Jean) Smith and Coleman (Sharon) Smith both of Dayton, and Rodney R. (Diana) Smith of Louisville, Ky.; sister, Tennga Conner of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother Dockie DuPont Smith of Kingston, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Wyrick and Rev. Jim Talley officiating.  Burial will be Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Spring City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, Feb. 8, two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.  

Vaughn Funeral Home, Spring City is in charge of arrangements.
