Yvonne Young, 81, died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Mrs. Young was born in Cleveland, Ohio.  She was the daughter of the late Dr. Homer L. Bowers, D.D.S. and Ruth Booth Bowers Kutschbach.  She was a graduate of Massillon Washington High School, where she was a majorette in the Tiger Swing Band.  She was a professional musical majorette with the George "Red" Bird Swing Band that played for the Cleveland Browns halftime shows.  Mrs. Young was a retired secretary for M. A. E. Sign Company and moved to Rhea County in 1982 with her husband, Delbert.  Yvonne was a member of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and a volunteer with the Rhea County Election Commission.  She was a seamstress for many years and loved boating, skiing, fishing and gardening.  She attended Yellow Creek Baptist Church in Spring City.

Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Eugene Young; brothers Grant and Robert Bowers; and sister, Gladys Bowers.  

Survivors include sister-in-laws, Ruth Bowers of Massillon, Ohio, Irene Young Britzel of Navarre, Ohio, and Lenore "Nornie" Young of Ashland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Burial followed in the Spring City Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 24, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International or Our Daily Bread, P. O. Box 580, Spring City, TN  37381

Vaughn Funeral Home of Spring City is in charge of arrangements.
